SEVENTH FIRE OUTDOOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OVERNIGHT TRIP CONSENT FORM

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

ELEMENTS OF RISK

Overnight camping trips provide valuable opportunities for student learning but involve inherent risks associated with outdoor activities, transportation, hiking, weather, terrain, and camping. Despite appropriate planning and safety precautions, accidents or injuries may occur.

I understand and acknowledge that:

  • Trip capacity is limited for safety and educational purposes. Registration is first come, first served and requires a completed permission form and payment.
  • Camping fees must be paid through School Cash Online by the deadline indicated on the trip handout. After this date, fees are non-refundable due to prepaid expenses such as permits, food, supplies, and staffing. Refunds issued before the deadline may be subject to administrative fees.
  • Students will participate in physically demanding outdoor activities, which may include hiking, portaging, camping, cooking, and sleeping in tents.
  • Students are responsible for carrying required personal items and bringing appropriate clothing and footwear. Closed-toed footwear is mandatory for hiking and portaging; Crocs are not acceptable.
  • Students must follow all instructions and safety requirements provided by trip staff and participate responsibly in scheduled activities.
  • Personal electronic devices will be surrendered to Land-Based staff for the duration of the overnight trip, securely stored in the emergency vehicle, and returned at the end of the trip. Smartwatches, gaming devices, and other unnecessary electronics should be left at home.
  • Drugs, cannabis products, alcohol, e-cigarettes, and vaping devices are strictly prohibited. Possession may result in removal from the trip and further school consequences. A parent/guardian will be contacted and may be required to pick up the student from the camping location.
  • Energy drinks and caffeinated beverages are not permitted.
  • If a student becomes ill, the parent/guardian and school will be notified. When appropriate, arrangements will be made for the student to return to school for parent/guardian pick-up.
  • Injuries will be assessed and treated by qualified staff, including a Wilderness First Responder, with further medical attention sought when necessary. Parents/guardians and the school will be notified as soon as safely and reasonably possible.
  • The LDML Education Centre does not provide additional accidental death, disability, dismemberment, or medical-expense insurance for students.
  • Trips may be cancelled, modified, or rescheduled due to unsafe conditions, weather, attendance, or other safety concerns.
  • Camping activities support curriculum expectations. Students who do not participate in the trip are required to attend school and complete assigned Land-Based learning activities.
